Junior League Westchester Honors Missy Palmisciano of County Harvest
The Junior League of Westchester on the Sound honored Missy Palmisciano of County Harvest, Inc. at its Spring Fling Benefit at The Winged Foot Golf Club on March 31. She was one of five Sound Shore Superwomen (non-JLWOS members) who have made significant contributions to the Sound Shore community.
Ms. Palmisciano was chosen for her visionary work as founder and coordinator of County Harvest, which collects excess food from hotels, caterers and supermarkets and delivers it to soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters throughout Westchester. Since 2009 County Harvest has rescued and distributed over 600,000 pounds of food.
The other four 2012 honorees were:
Anne Avenius of St. Augustine’s Church (Larchmont, NY) for her volunteer work supporting Habitat for Humanity of Westchester.
Deborah Blatt, founder of The Sharing Shelf of Family Services of Westchester.
Melinda Lehman, president of Larchmont-Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force (aka Food Pantry).
Maria Massa of Our Lady of the Rosary Church (Port Chester, NY) for counseling Spanish speaking immigrant women in need.
